If you do after clicking the process heading, click the view tab as I said and then click select columns
If you do not have that then it is first windows 7 I have seen that does not have it and I can assure you I have seen a few

Restarting to same windows set up as I had before logging off

It appears to me that you want all of the programs and files to be up and running that you had when you shut down.

No, you can't, but you can add each program to the Startup group and they will be opened, but not to the last opened file.

I would NOT want to do this as it may take a lot longer for the machine to get running and you have no control which program is going to when.

Bootmgr is missing - Toshiba

Not to argue anyone else's advice, but Toshiba laptops come with windows, they have a hidden partition on the hard drive with the installation source for that laptop (doesn't need product keys or activation, or any of that) that you activate by hitting a certain key before the system boots up. It's activated by the bios, so it works even when you have a total boot failure, like this one. And it will certainly have a "startup repair" option, which is what I would suggest you try first.

Outlook Express

I'm running a new install of Windows 7 Prof. with XP mode.

I installed Microsoft Office 2000, in XP mode, to try and keep my Outlook Express e-mail, that I was using in Win-XP.
It seems to work ok, except each time I open Outlook Express in XP mode, I have to enter my passwords on each of my e-mail addresses. If I keep OE open while in XP mode, I don't have to keep entering pass words, I can send/receive without entering PW's.

As soon as I close OE, and open it again, I have to re-enter PW's for each address.

Any idea why OE won't hold my passwords?

I also have Windows Live Mail on the Windows 7, and it works ok. I just don't like it as well as OE.

Update and resolution. After getting Norton to check remotely was advised it was an isp issue. Rang vodafone and yes it was/is. The pocketwifi needed to have it's connection area altered as they are having some issues with the network. Just seemed too coincidental that it occurred after updates that the isp came into the mix.

Strange folders appearing from nowhere on my external drive

They sound a bit like the folders that .NET creates when it updates. I think it just chooses the disk with the most free space to occupy. Don't delete them without confirming this though.

Print Active Window shows Print Dialog Box on printed page

Hello Everyone,

I have tried searching and searching for this problem but nothing seems to come up with this particularly odd problem. I'm actually running 3rd party software hosted on an AS/400 system but from a Windows 7 32-bit computer. If I right-click the title-bar of the window and select print, the print dialog box comes up asking for the printer I want to use. I select one, then click "Print" and the following comes out on the page....

<See Sample.jpg> (Of course, that's not an actual page, it's a representation of what you'd see on the page, but it's accurate despite the fact that it's color. Anyway, the print screens come out light and don't scan in well.)

As you can see, the print dialog box is clearly visible on the page. This seems to randomly crop up only on Windows 7 boxes and once it starts, we seem to have no way to stop it.

HEEEEyyyUUULLPP!!!

Thanks,

Stop ccleaner.
Use the disk cleanup button from right click on drive -> properties in My Computer/Windows explorer. It does do temp.
I didn't mean for you to remove Firefox completely, just that one folder needs clearing as I don't think ccleaner does it.

Now try Ccleaner but don't let it touch the registry.

Hi
Not that it makes any difference now but CD is change directory
and you cannot issue a CD cmd on X which is a ramdrive created for the purposes of recovery to change from the X drive to the C drive
the correct cmd is as you posted, although the F is not needed as it is implied by R or you could simply have typed
C:
and then when it changed from the X:\Sources> or whatever it was on - to C:
the chkdsk cmd from there

THAT all said the important aspect while we await your chkdsk results is that from what I can see when it was running in read only mode which is NOT a reliable result

At this moment of time I suspect the full chkdsk will reveal bad sectors and if that is the case althought the /R will attempt recovery of the data from the bad sectors and re-write it to good sectors and then mark the sectors as bad, so that data is not written to them in future, the ONLY way forward is to replace the hard drive

I will be better able to advise you when you post the results

might be a good idea to run a chkdsk /r from cmd prompt...

I don't believe it came with a warranty. I could be wrong. Need to check but I don't think so. Have you heard of these types of problems before? Will let you know if I find a warranty.

For friends who are using Win 7 System for computers, if you are in trouble with problem like "Win7 does not recognize the CD-ROM", this may be a good method to solve it.
Analysis: The problem may be that there is an error in the registry keys lead.
  The Ultimate Solution:
Note: Modify the registry at risk, please carefully operation.
  Press Win + R keys, type Regedt32.exe, press Enter to open the Registry Editor;

Windows Explorer will not retain my display settings.

right click and click properties
On the shortcut tab you will see the target as %windir% etc Libraries
MAKE a note of what is there currently just in case

Delete that and type
%windir%\explorer.exe ""

it may be easier to copy and paste that
click apply and OK

then explorer will open on computer and you can then configure content etc.

OR leave that as is and use
Windows logo key +E

Thanks for reply.

I already have %windir%\explorer.exe"" showing on the shortcut tab. Explorer still opens showing Libraries.
However, if I use Win Logo key + E, it opens up showing "Computer" with all my drives listed under.

I suppose I can just use the key's to open explorer.

Reinstalling OS 7 on New HD in Acer 5372z Problem

$

I just put a 500GB HD in my Acer 5372z cause the original 250GB crashed. I ordered my systems discs from Acer and proceeded to re install. Everything went fine, went through the process and when it was completed it rebooted and was starting to apply all settings then this error message came up "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this compute, restart the installation"

When computer comes on I hit F2 systems recognizes New HD, made sure optical drive is the first to boot and have went through the process 4 times and still get the same result. Before I have to pay someone to try and do this for me I wanted to see if anyone can help me get this going.

I have searched all over and just can't find the answer I'm looking for. I have changed HD in other computer without issues. This is really puzzling me. Please can someone help me.
