Internet only works in Safe Mode

Hello,

I came across this problem yesterday and have constantly been trying to fix it. I get the little '!' error on my internet when I try to access it, but not when I'm in Safe Mode with Networking. I've tried every fix I can find and am hoping that you guys might be able to help me. What I *think* happened is that I must of installed a malicious program, I was downloading something from Cnet (I know) and though I'm usually pretty careful to decline all the offers, I think I might of installed one but I can't find it anywhere. I'm running Malware Bytes right now and hoping it will find something. Is there anything in this HijackThis log that seems like it might be causing the problem?

Unable to change TEMP folder locations

Hey all, I have an issue.
My C drive is a 64gb SSD. It has windows and basic documents and files. It has 1.5gb free. Ive looked thru everything and theres nothing i am willing to delete. And nothing of a size to bother moving.

My issue is. I have changed all the temp folders to my 2TB drive Q:
In both system variables and user variables both temps are set to Q.

However when running installers it still temp installs to C. Regardless of the fact its told to temp everything into Q:/temp

I have 3 programs i desperately need to install. first Visual Studio 2013. Ive set its install folder to Q.
But still it says it requires 6gb on C and 3Gb on Q

How can i stop it from writing to C completely... I have had this issue with any installer to be honest.

I could put my temp file locations anywhere any drive bar C and still itll write Temp to C.. This is something thats given me great frustration in the past and because of this - many many programs ive had to just get over and not bother installing due to this silly problem...

Its beyond me if all temp directories [system and user variables] have been set elsewhere and yet it still writes to C?

*facepalm

any help is greatly appreciated!

Clean install or Migration?

Just clone your current drive over to the SSD. I will be getting an SSD soon and that's exactly what I plan on doing.

----------

I suggest using Clonezilla which I have had a lot of good experiences with.

The only problem is that if the SSD is smaller than your current drive, you will need to shrink your current partition down to the size it occupies on the drive, then clone the partition over. This extra step may not be required with other cloning/imaging solutions.

Hello steve1215,

What screen are you able to get to? Do you boot into Window and then automatically shutdown?

Try booting into Safe Mode and let me know if this is successful.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Safe Mode
  • While the computer is turning on, tap F8 repeatedly until a black screen with white text appears.[/*]
  • Using your arrow keys highlight the option Safe Mode and hit Enter.[/*]

Hello TSG forum, this is my post!

I'm facing a strange problem, I have googled for this symptom, but I still think this is an unique case so I want to make a new thread.

Here's my computer specs:
Antec 700W PSU
MB: Asus P7T55D
RAM: Adata 4+2x2 Gb 1600
CPU: Intel core i5 750, stock clock
GPU: Inno 3D GTX 770 (factory overclocked, installed about a month or two ago)
SSD: Intel 128Gb
Several HDDs for data and game

I now have the issue of the application freezes (whether it's any games or firefox, or chrome, or media player). In an in-game environment, the screen freezes and the audio clips itself. If I was using a web browser with windows media player next to the browser window, the browser would freeze but the video plays smoothly. The CPU and GPU monitor shows that during the freeze their activity drops to zero.

I'm very sure this isn't a hardware problem, and I accepted this could be a lengthy bug hunting. So here's what I did so far
1. Ran Malwarebytes and quarantined all detected malwares
2. Checked nVidia drivers for update. Honestly the latest firmware is very buggy to begin with. But it wouldn't spread the crashes to Windows environment surely?
3. Ran health check on RAM, no results
4. Ran cmd/scannow for corroupted files, no results

I'm simply out of moves. Can anyone please help?[/LIST]

OK, your post is somewhat difficult to understand. Is your system working ok other than being unable to enter setup? BTW you do not really have a bios; your mb has the newer uefi which has replaced bios. For a gigabyte board, you hit the DEL key repeatedly during POST; that should take you to the uefi setup.

If you do the above, are you not able to access setup?

Welcome to TSG Schaben.

Is the executable file (Advanced_Unistaller.exe) on a remote drive or a network drive? If so, move it onto your local drive. Right click it and select Run As Administrator. Does it install? If it (And I suspect it has) been downloaded, check the properties under the General tab, down at the bottom under Security. Select Unblock and apply. Again does it install?

Battery Plugged/Unplugged Notice

I've noticed that on my cousin's laptop, whenever he unplugs to move it around, a warning appears above the battery icon warning him the power cord was disconnected, and another warning when he reconnects it. I get a similar warning when I connect/disconnect my headphones or mic from the jack.

Is that power cord connected/disconnected warning a feature that can be turned on, or is it specific to certain brands of computers?

Please note that if I don't want to download third party applications for this. I only want to know if it's a feature that can be turned on, and if so, how to turn it on.

Thank you for your time.

Windows Update error Ox800Fo81F

$

I am getting error Ox800Fo81F when I attempt to install any Windows 7 update (for example, KB2961072-x64). There is some information on this error on Microsoft Support, but the advice given would seem to apply to Windows 8 users only (as scanhealth and restorehealth are not available with Windows 7 as operations when using a command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image).
This occurs in either of these instances:
when employing the standard Windows Update program, or when I manually download and run a particular update's Standalone Package. (Windows Update can identify the necessary updates, but none of them installs successfully after download.)
I have already tried restoring my computer using a current system image and the system restore disk, but I continue to have the same problem. June 11 was the last time an update installed successfully (I do not have any restore points saved from before the start of this problem). I have installed the Hotfix for Windows (KB947821), but all Windows software updates still fail to install (the Hotfix itself did install); I have also run the WindowsUpdateDiagnosis Troubleshooting Pack; also, Microsoft Fixit; I have also fully reset Windows Update.
I have not tried to reinstall Windows 7, because I do not have a Windows installation disk. Might the problem be alleviated if I purchase an installation disk for Windows 8 to upgrade Windows? My computer is new enough to be running on Windows 8.
Is there any other solution?
