windows 7 installation + old install issues on asus cm1740

Hallo! Not sure if w7 or hardware problem. Please feel free to move. Thank you!

Computer: Asus CM1740
Hard drives: Seagate (W7 old install) + Western Digital (W7 old install *and* new 2kpro install). Both 160gb (not sure of speed).
OS: Win7 Home Premium x64

- At first I tried just putting the hard drive in and going. No go.
- Then I tried using the Win7 disc to get into start-up recovery. No go.
- Then I tried putting in my secondary (no important info) into the computer and using the Win7 disc to format. No go.
- Then I tried reformatting with Win2kPro (it was one of the other OS discs I have lying around, sorry...) and installing... yes, it worked! Except, as much as I loved 2kPro, I cannot to use a 13yo OS. :(

I am getting two errors: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The page fault error is more prevalent. Here are the technical codes at the bottom:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA:
STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFA8000F400000, 0x0000000000000001, 0xFFFFF80000CE82139, 0x00000000000000002)

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL:
STOP:0x0000000A(0x000000000000000B0, 0x00000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFF8000CE80ABF)

The errors are occuring when I get to the W7 *graphical* boot screen -- the one with the Windows logo and colors, etc.

When I tried to boot in Safe Mode on the Seagate, it stopped going during the loading of *drivers.*

I was thinking it was the memory -- but memtest + windows memory test both say my RAM is fine.

I was thinking it was the BIOS -- but I have the latest version appropriate to W7.

Tried already on quite a few support sites. No go so far. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas... thanks much! Any ideas, means of testing components, or other input is appreciated.
