What's the brand name and model name and complete model number of that laptop?

Are you planning to install Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit or 64-bit?

--------------------------------------------------------

If you know the identity of that laptop's devices, obtain the Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) drivers for them, then save those drivers to some external media.

Install the new hard drive.

Set the disc drive first in the boot order in the BIOS.

Insert the Windows 7 SP1 disc and boot from it.

Do a clean install of Windows 7 SP1.

After you're done, install any needed drivers from the external media.

Go to Windows Update and do a scan, then install the important/recommended updates.

DON'T install programs and extras in that laptop until after Windows 7 is up-to-date and all devices are working.
