Running slow, won't install Office 2010, always runs checkdisk

Update: am now getting this message upon booting: Sec Slave Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Status BAD, Backup and Replace.

Apparently this means my hard disk is about to die, so I guess there's nothing anyone can do to help!
