Booting problems

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy

2. Acer One notebook is not sufficient information to check the exact procedure for your computer
Is it an Acer One Aspire or which and then which sub model

3. I thought that those notebooks came with a recovery partition on the hard drive and the procedure for using it, if it could not be accessed via Windows is as follows

Use the following steps to start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt, and the F10 keys.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the Acer eRecovery Management application has loaded, select your restore type.
  5. Read the notice, and then click Next when you are ready.
  6. Click Next to begin the restore process. The restore can take anywhere from 10 minutes up to an hour.
  7. Once the restore is complete your computer will load Windows and start installing your drivers and software. Your computer may reboot several times during this process. After everything is complete your computer will be like it was when you first purchased it

4. ALTERNATIVELY if for some reason that recovery partition no longer exists, eg a new hard drive or it has been deleted then the procedure using the purchased discs is as far as I know
When Windows cannot be installed from Acer eRecovery Management, use the Recovery CDs or DVDs to re-install all original software:

  1. Make a backup of personal data, as the recovery process will erase all your files, such as email and photos.
  2. Power off your computer. In case the system is not equipped with a built-in optical drive, connect an external USB optical drive before powering on the system.
  3. Power on your computer. When the first logo screen shows, press repeatedly the F12 key to enter the Boot menu. On some systems, you may need to enable the boot menu before you can access it.
  4. Use the arrow keys to select your optical drive.
  5. Insert the disc labelled System CD in the optical drive and press ENTER. The system will load from the Acer Recovery Media.
  6. After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system

5. If these are the methods you have used then it may appear that the problem was not simply file corruption on the O/S data but the problems
Quote:

It was giving me problems booting after using all of the restore options
are indicative of something else.

6. It may help if you start with a disk check utility to ensure the state of the hard drive is not the problem
You may use Seatools for Dos, booted from a CD ISO

Here is how - posted with acknowledgement to my colleague Mark1956
You can create the Seatools disc on any fully functional PC with a CD burner or use any PC to create the Flash Drive.

Open Internet Explorer and click on this: Seatools

Save the download to your desktop.

In Windows 7 right click the ISO file, select Open With, then select Windows Disc Image Burning Tool then follow the prompts.
For all other versions of windows (if you do not have an ISO burner) download this free software. ImgBurn Install the program (make sure you uncheck any boxes that will install bundled software) and start the application. Select the top left hand option to Write image file to disc and then on the next window click on the small yellow folder icon and browse to the ISO file on your desktop. Then click on the two grey discs with the arrow in between (bottom left) and leave it to complete the operation.

You will need a blank recordable CD or a re-recordable CD. If your PC has no CD/DVD drive or you would prefer to run Seatools from a Flash Drive follow this guide: How to run Seatools from a USB Flash Drive

When the CD has been burned boot the PC into the Bios setup and set the CD/DVD drive to 1st in the boot sequence Bios Boot Order Guide. Insert the disk in the drive then reboot and the disc will load into DOS. Click on Basic Tests and select the Long Test. If using a Flash Drive you need to set USB to 1st in the boot order, if there is no USB available in the boot order you will have to run the test from a CD.

A full set of instructions can be found here: Seatools instructions

When the test completes it will show a Pass or Fail.
