Those 3 CDs/DVDs you received will enable you to reinstall the operating system and other programmes and put your computer back to how it was when you bought it - provided the hardware is still ok. Not something you need to do unless you've encountered problems - in which case get advice here, of course.
Remember - These will wipe your hard disc so backup all your important docs, pics, vids etc to that external hard drive regularly & frequently. (Plus to another one if you can afford it!?)
What's the make and model of that external hard drive? Someone here may know how to guide you in using its installed backup prog.
Same thing with your computer - the make and model will help people here give the most appropriate advice. Try to post the info that this prog will provide .... TSG System Information Utility http://static.techguy.org/download/SysInfo.exe
