Using windows 7 backup

sounds like the shadow copy is being stored on the internal hd, not the external. i used the feature once a long time ago to make a system image and it took a bunch of dvd's. i loooked at a tutorial at here, and the pictures it showed were pretty self explanatory, it's hard to see you choosing the wrong place to save it. is it possible that you have chosen to backup more than the 153 gb, or that there is not that much space on the external? not trying to question you, just things that need to be checked again. after re-reading the error messaage, it looks like it may have to do with space on the shadow copy drive. a little checking turned up this solution. you have to adapt it to win 7, but it's not that hard.

keep in mind that when partitioning or making changes to your hard drive, you want to be careful and back your data up first, at least the things you don't want to lose. and you will probably want to clean it well (temp files, cookies, etc.) first, and then defrag the hard drive. if you use a third party tool such as ccleaner, be extremely careful, it is easy to hose your system.
