The act of selecting a group of files using the "Shift and click" is still the same in Windows 7 as it was in the earlier versions. This would only select the files and then one would have to tell the OS what to do with the selected files.

I do not know what this "homemade" term is all about.

My problem was getting on to the right menu or rather finding the drop down menu. I create a minim rest sign on a music chart by grouping a filled oblong to a line (I used to use the Drawing Menu - using Shift Click you could group the 2 objects into 1 objec - then enlarge or shrink the whole thing. When I tried this on Windows 7 on husband`s lap top, using one of the Home menus, it selected either one object or the other. It refused to link them. Help page referred me to something called "naming" which looked incredibly complicated.

I found out by accident just now that you don`t need to use the ribbon menus on Microsoft Office Word 2007 - if I hang on to Shift after I have clicked on the second object, the menu for grouping appears to the right.

Thanks for your interest. We are buying OFFICE Word 2007 for dummies. That should help. Windows 7 for Dummies was the wrong book for using these menus.
