Now that's what a I call an excellent bit of advice. I've pasted your directive onto a Notepad to save and I think I will do exactly as you suggest. Any idea of how much space (on average) a System image backup requires? I'm asking because I have some space left on my 300gb backup drive but not wishing to buy a new empty one, I'm wondering if the System image would fit on one CD? My guess is it's not enormous compared to backing up all data from the C: drive.
I do have a Repair disc that this HP computer prompted me to make when I bought it. But using that yesterday didn't give me the option Repair the type of fault I had, it was orientated towards Start Up faults and failures, and other than that complete Re-install of Windows 7 and one more function Restore the PC to "Factory state" none of which I actually wanted. I'd already done an sfc /scannow in Admin level Command prompt and that hadn't found any files missing which is odd, as you'd think it would have shown up that SearchIndex.exe was missing. Scannow surely looks at system files more than any other. All very odd. Anyhow thanks for that - I'll await your advice on what medium is best to put the System image on and for now I'll mark this as solved. Best Regards. Plado
