Ok. Here is where we are. I am alive again on a new harddrive. I'm gonna wipe the old one good and return it to Seagate for a replacement. I was so delighted with all the problems I've been having with Seagate drives over the past months that I went and got a new Western Digital drive. Considering that I'm on a new harddrive, and the old harddrive failed Seagate's long test, let's say it's solved.
By the way, I copied the files first with Robocopy to be safe and sure. Then after I ran chkdsk /v /r on the disk, it read better, so I went ahead and copied the boot partition over with Partition Wizard. And that's what I'm on now. Partition Wizard saved the day.
